About
Why this foundation was started:
Thomas M. Curry, Jr. started this foundation in May of 2009 when his friend Ben Kennedy was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Ben, and his wife, Brittany are a young, hardworking couple that has been financially crippled by Ben’s unexpected illness. Tom Curry wanted his friends Ben and Brittany to be able to focus their time and energy to beating Ben’s cancer, but financial issues were standing in the way. Ben wanted to have treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas but did not want to be away from his wife during the 4-6 month long treatment. And unfortunately, his wife Brittany could not afford to be with him because she needed to continue to work to pay their living expenses. To make matters worse, due to the bad economy, Ben’s employer told him that he could not afford to pay him during his absence. This meant that Brittany was left trying to pay for their house, cars, utilities, food and astronomical medical bills on one salary! Tom Curry did not believe that Ben and Brittany should be left to handle this challenge on their own! He believed that with a little help from the community, and our country, we can pull together and help Ben and Brittany focus on getting better without having to worry about financial issues. Tom Curry believed that individually these challenges are enormous. But collectively, we can change their lives. There is strength in numbers and nobody should have to face this kind of battle alone! That is what this foundation is meant to do, organize the good and caring people of this country to pull together and provide emotional and financial support to those facing immense challenges so they don’t need to fight alone!
